LUCY RAE, 16

-

THE fifth-year pupil at Turnbull High School in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, attended her prom on June 4, at the city’s Grand Central Hotel.

She and her friends met at their school before they all travelled to the venue by coach.

Lucy wore an intricate £1,050 dress from Dress2Party, complete with £70 shoes.

After spending a couple of hours having her hair curled and styled by her hairdresser cousin – and a £45 makeover – she was ready for her big night.

She said: ‘When I went to the shop I was initially looking for a more fitted dress but when I asked about it I was told it had sold out.

‘Then I saw this one hanging on the rack and thought it was lovely. It was bigger than the dress I had gone there for but when they didn’t have that one, I thought it best to keep my options open.

‘I did try on a couple of others but when I put this one on I just fell in love with it.

‘The size I tried in the shop was too big and the woman suggested a size for me to order. I was a bit worried it would be too small but luckily when it arrived it fitted perfectly.

‘I only wore stud earrings, a ring and a watch because I didn’t want to detract from the detail on the dress’. Lucy said girls wore many different styles of dresses, within a range of budgets, and some set out to have the most expensive or biggest dress.

She added: ‘I ended up with the biggest dress – but that was unintentional.’

With so many pupils choosing outfits for the same event, Lucy and her friends were keen to make sure no two dresses were the same, and swapped pictures via a Facebook group before the big event.

She said: ‘Around 100 fifth and sixth-year girls at the school were all part of a Facebook group where we could post pictures so nobody ended up with the same dress.

‘Some girls didn’t and ran the risk of having the same one as someone else.’

Her mother Elaine RaeTwaddle, 34, was with Lucy when she picked her gown.

She said: ‘I thought it was absolutely beautiful and don’t think she would have found another that suited her as much as this one.

‘When I saw her in it she took my breath away.’
