Start me up! Jagger’s heart doc on tour
HE IS back performing just weeks after undergoing vital heart surgery – and showing a level of energy that would shame men half his age.
But Sir Mick Jagger, 75, has a cardiologist waiting in the wings at every Rolling Stones concert ‘just in case’, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
The Stones were forced to postpone their North American concerts after it was disclosed that the frontman needed life-saving surgery. The tour resumed last weekend in Chicago after Jagger made a spectacular recovery following a heart-valve replacement operation in April.
However, insurance requirements mean a heart specialist now has to be within feet of the singer every time he is on stage. A source said: ‘There has always been a doctor on tour with the band – that’s a requirement of any major tour, particularly given the ages of the band members.
‘But now Mick has undergone heart surgery, there is a cardiologist there too, just for him. The insurance company demands it just in case anything happens.’
Jagger has resumed his gruelling fitness regime, which includes working out for two hours a day with a trainer. The Start Me Up singer has his own gym set up in a suite next to his hotel room. ‘Mick does free weights and has cardio machines,’ said the source. ‘He supplements it with Pilates and boxing.’
Jagger also travels with a private chef who cooks him organic food. The source added: ‘Mick has always eaten clean but he’s on a low-sodium diet because of his issues. He takes a handful of vitamins every day and has never looked or sounded better.’
