CELTIC’S FLYING SQUAD

-

JAMES FORREST: Scotland’s reigning Player of the Year and described as a club legend by Neil Lennon. A proven and consistent big-game performer and a certainty to start when fit, although Lennon has used him in a more central role during pre-season. SCOTT SINCLAIR (left): Has never quite recaptured the dizzying heights of his first year at Parkhead but has remained a potent contributor with goals and assists. One of the club’s highest earners, he has just penned a new oneyear contract but the club may sell if a sizeable bid came in. MIKEY JOHNSTON: Although still prone to being knocked off the ball, the 20-year-old boasts a formidable blend of self-confidence, speed and dancing feet. Got into the team for the Scottish Cup final and is pushing hard. LEWIS MORGAN: Signed on a free 12 months ago, Morgan’s Celtic career was immediately stalled by injury. Spent the second half of the season on loan at Sunderland where he played regularly under his old St Mirren boss Jack Ross. A two-footed talent, he hopes his versatility can give him an edge. MARYAN SHVED (left): His signing prompted Brendan Rodgers’ ‘million wingers’ quote and he was loaned straight back to Karpaty Lviv. Judging by his YouTube scoring reel, the young Ukrainian looks an exciting talent but he is likely to play second fiddle to Forrest for his favourite right-wing berth. JONNY HAYES (right): Saw increased game time under Lennon towards the end of last season but, with Kieran Tierney recovering from a double hernia operation, he is likely to start the Champions League qualifiers at left-back. KARAMOKO DEMBELE (left): Long regarded as the most exciting talent in the club’s academy, the 17-year-old debuted on trophy day at the end of last season and instantly impressed. Stiffer challenges await but he has stated his intent to trouble the first team this season.
