AS A food ambassador for Marks & Spencer, he is paid a sixfigure sum to sample its enticing new dishes. But TV star Paddy McGuinness has revealed he has less expensive tastes at home.

The host of Top Gear has proudly posted a series of Instagram pictures of his favourite ‘meals’ – including a bizarre combination of cocktail sausages, Hula Hoops and a Wagon Wheel biscuit.

The father-of-three explains that he is fending for himself without wife Christine, 31, at home. ‘The good lady is away so I’m living the dream on my own,’ he says.

In one post, Paddy shows off what he describes as a ‘gastronomic masterpiece’ – cottage pie accompanied by microwaved garlic bread covered in cheese spread. Other offerings from the presenter of the ITV dating show Take Me Out include a fried fish sandwich, and a cheese and onion pie, baked beans, chips and curry sauce.

Next to the picture, he asked his 1.1 million Instagram followers: ‘Now where did I put that Gaviscon?’ – a reference to the heartburn remedy.

Other favourites include a plateful of confectionery.

Last year Paddy, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and television presenters Emma Willis and Rochelle Humes were signed up by M&S to try out the high street giant’s food and start a discussion on social media. Paddy said at the time: ‘For me, if you’ve bought something from M&S you instantly know it’s going to be good before you’ve even put it in your mouth, and it was that quality that drew me in.’

On an M&S website video, he names his favourite food from the store as its cold meats. ‘My favourite is the antipasti snacking platter – you can put them all together and every bite tastes amazing,’ he enthuses.

Last year, M&S also signed up ITV’s This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby as a fashion ambassador in an attempt to improve its appeal to younger customers.

But last week it emerged that the embattled retailer had ousted clothing boss Jill McDonald after she failed to halt dwindling fashion sales.

There was particular criticism over the failure to stock enough of the bestselling jeans promoted by Holly.
