PHOEBE Waller-Bridge is set to be crowned the Queen of Comedy at tonight’s ‘TV Oscars’ in Hollywood.

The 34-year-old’s hit series Fleabag is nominated for a total of 11 Emmy awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She is also up for Outstanding Drama Series for Killing Eve, which she wrote.

An Emmy source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Everyone is expecting this to be Phoebe’s coronation in Hollywood. She’s the biggest talent to come out of Britain in years and America has embraced both shows.

‘Everyone fully expects her to leave with an armful of awards. This is her year.’

Olivia Colman is favourite to win Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Fleabag, in a category which also includes Sian Clifford, who plays Fleabag’s long-suffering sister Claire. ‘Everyone wants Olivia to win because she’s so popular and she will make a brilliantly witty speech,’ the source added.

Other British stars who are expected to triumph include Kit Harington as Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Game Of Thrones. Jodie Comer and Emilia Clarke are joint favourite to win Best Actress in a Drama Series for Killing Eve and Game Of Thrones respectively. Irish actress Fiona Shaw, who plays Carolyn Martens, head of MI6’s Russian desk in Killing Eve, is up against Game Of Thrones stars Gwendoline Christie, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Bodyguard has been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series alongside Killing Eve in a category which is expected to be won by Game Of Thrones.

Bodyguard’s Richard Madden was snubbed by Emmy voters but Hugh Grant is up for Lead Actor in a Limited Series for A Very English Scandal about the Jeremy Thorpe affair.

He is up against Jared Harris – son of legendary actor Richard Harris – for his role in Chernobyl. Ben Whishaw, Grant’s costar in A Very English Scandal, is nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The eighth and final series of Game Of Thrones, which received mixed reviews from critics and the public when it was screened earlier this year, is nominated for a record-breaking 32 Emmys.

Former MoS writer Sean Macaulay is also in the running for an award.

He is nominated for writing My Dinner With Herve, a TV movie about his experience interviewing Fantasy Island actor Herve Villechaize for this newspaper.
