Student who asked Boris ‘loyal father’ question is chosen as Tory candidate

- By Max Aitchison

A STUDENT who publicly challenged Boris Johnson’s character by asking whether a Prime Minister needed to be a ‘loyal husband and father’ has been selected as a Conservative candidate.

Flora Scarabello, 21, questioned the Tory leader about his private life at a party leadership hustings in Perth this summer.

Despite this, she has now been chosen to stand as the their candidate for Glasgow Central, which is being defended by Alison Thewliss of the SNP.

Mr Johnson has faced repeated criticism for refusing to say how many children he has fathered. It is thought he has five – four of them with his second wife, Marina Wheeler, whom he is divorcing.

It is alleged he fathered a love child with art consultant Helen Macintyre in 2009.

Mr Johnson is now in a relationship with Carrie Symonds, 31, a former Conservative press officer. She is the first unmarried partner of a Prime Minister to reside in 10 Downing Street.

Former Conservative leader Michael Howard once sacked Mr Johnson from the shadow cabinet for lying about one of his extramarital affairs, claiming the issue was one of ‘personal morality’.

Ms Scarabello, from Falkirk, asked Mr Johnson: ‘Does a good Prime Minister need to be a loyal husband and father?’

He responded: ‘I just don’t comment on that stuff, if that’s all right.’

Ms Scarabello, who studies law at Oxford University, retorted: ‘If you choose not to comment on it then you’re just going to have to let us doubtful voters come to our own conclusion, and it may not be a favourable one.’
