Drowning his sorrows in an all-American bar, the British McDonald’s boss sacked over affair

- From Abul Taher

SUPPING on a craft beer, former McDonald’s boss Steve Easterbrook is snapped drowning his sorrows a fortnight after being fired from his £12milliona-year job for having a relationship with a colleague.

However, the British executive needn’t be too downcast, as he received a reported £58million payoff from the fast-food giant he ran for four years.

Our exclusive picture shows Mr Easterbrook nursing his beer at the Sweetwater Tavern and Grille just a few minutes’ walk from his £2million apartment in Chicago. He and a friend attended the bar – which boasts a menu of ‘modern American classics with a twist’ – amid continuing fallout from his shock exit.

Divorced Mr Easterbrook was forced to quit as chief executive because his consensual relationship with an unnamed woman breached McDonald’s strict rules.

But the company has been accused of hypocrisy for ignoring at least 50 claims that workers had been sexually harassed by senior colleagues in McDonald’s across America in the past three years.

Last week, one former female worker launched a £4 million class action lawsuit against the chain, claiming she was repeatedly sexually assaulted at work and blaming the corporation for ‘a toxic work culture from the very top’.

Mr Easterbrook, from Watford, Hertfordshire, joined McDonald’s in 1993 as a UK store manager. He rose up the ranks to become global CEO in 2015, overseeing an £18 billion-a-year turnover.
