Society queen clashes with lover after visit to ex’s £250m mansion
GLAMOROUS philanthropist and society stalwart Claire Caudwell has told businessman Scott O’Brien she wants to end their relationship after he wrongly accused her of sleeping with her ex-partner, Phones 4U billionaire John Caudwell.
Claire remains amicable with Caudwell, her partner of 15 years with whom she has a son. They split in 2014, but last month was invited to tour his new £250million ‘mega mansion’. As the Mayfair property is a sprawling 45,000sq ft and has its own indoor river with fish, it took two hours to look around. The mansion is actually two huge back-to-back houses on separate streets that have been knocked into one.
Unknown to Claire, Scott was waiting in a nearby shisha bar and, when she emerged, he is said to have accused her of ignoring his calls and getting up to no good with her ex. In the row that followed, Claire told Scott their relationship needed to end – but I’m told she has faced a battle to remove him from her life.
Says a source: ‘Scott is refusing to accept the relationship is over. Since they started dating a year ago, it has become increasingly hard to get hold of her, as he often answers her calls. Clare has been trying to shake him off but she’s too nice.’
Last night may have been awkward for the pair, as Scott was still planning to attend the Float Like A Butterfly gala ball with Claire, who co-hosted it with John at Grosvenor House on Park Lane.
Claire is well known for throwing lavish society parties with John. When Claire turned 50 in May, John threw a star-studded bash for her, which she attended with Scott. John and his girlfriend of three years, Modesta Vzesniauskaite, posed with the then-happy couple, as my picture shows.
