TRAIL THAT LED TO SLAUGHTER

-

2008 Usman Khan is recruited by extremist group linked to hate preacher Anjem Choudary but denies being a terrorist.

December 2010 Police arrest nine men, including Khan, in connection with plot to kill Boris Johnson and bomb landmarks, including the London Stock Exchange.

January 2012 Khan admits engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism and is given IPP, meaning he should only be released when judged no danger to society.

April 2013 Appeal panel led by Lord Justice Leveson scraps IPP and instead gives Khan – who they describe as a young man ‘bigging up’ his intentions – a prison term of 16 years.

December 2018 After reaching midway point of his sentence, Khan is released from jail on condition he obey 20 strict conditions, wear a tag and attend deradicalisation sessions.

Friday Khan stabs to death two people and injures three at Fishmongers’ Hall before being shot dead on London Bridge.
