WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE...
...between dermis and epidermis?
The epidermis is the thin outer layer of the skin. It protects the structures underneath and provides a waterproof barrier. The deepest part contains special cells that produce melanin, which gives skin its colour.
The dermis is a thick layer of skin that lies underneath the epidermis. It contains connective tissue which makes skin strong and firm, as well as nerve endings, sweat glands, hair follicles and blood capillaries.
The layers work together to protect us from bacteria, viruses and the elements.
