‘Experts’ who treat us like idiots

-

How rude of ‘etiquette expert’ Rosemary Shrager to describe as ‘idiots’ people who take a bottle of wine to a dinner party.

She says the wine she buys for a party is often put aside and she is given plonk to drink instead.

We take a bottle to a dinner party as a gift to say thanks to our hosts. They are genuine friends and we don’t mind if they open our wine or save it for another occasion. We buy it for them, so it is their decision.

We normally find, though, that it is opened and drunk, and then we like to discuss the different wines people have bought.

Apparently we also need our heads examined for opening Christmas crackers before the main course. What is the point of opening them after the meal? The whole idea is to make everyone wear the crowns and look silly while they are eating their lunch!

I wish ‘experts’ would stop trying to ram daft ideas down our throats. We can work things out for ourselves.
