HORNETS STUNG LATE AS SAINTS END WAIT TO WIN

-

TWO goals in five second-half minutes meant Southampton were left to celebrate their first home win since April 13 over a Watford side with just one victory all season.

The win eases pressure on manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as his side move up to 18th, just two points behind Everton.

For visiting boss Quique Sanchez Flores, though, his side remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Ismaila Sarr had put the Hornets ahead 24 minutes in before Saints’ pressure told and Danny Ings turned in a Sofiane Boufal cross on 78 minutes.

James Ward-Prowse then put Saints ahead as his free-kick found the top corner to complete the turnaround.

Ings admitted: ‘It’s a massive result. It has been a tough week for everyone at the club.

‘To go 1-0 down and then to come back and win shows the character of the lads.’
