Victoria Pendleton at last got lucky? No, not with her betting at the races but with her love life. The former Olympic cyclist – who split from husband Scott Gardner last summer – tells me she took this dashing bearded chap, right, to the Ladbrokes Winter Carnival at Newbury Races yesterday as her ‘plus one’.
She wouldn’t name him as she says she wants to keep him out of the spotlight, but coyly described him as ‘a new friend’, adding: ‘Let’s just say we met recently and I wanted him to join me as my plus one.’
They certainly looked affectionate as they watched the action from the Royal Box, where Victoria, 39, was a guest of Madeleine Lloyd Webber (Andrew’s wife) and Harry Herbert, the Queen’s racing manager.
