A HIKE up a mountain is a more popular first date than a slap-up dinner for Britons aged 40 to 60, a study has revealed.

For those aged between 50 and 60, a hike was the top choice of first date with 46 per cent choosing it and 39 per cent opting for an evening in a restaurant. In the 40 to 50 age range, a hike was picked by 36 per cent compared to 29 per cent choosing dinner, research by farawayfur­niture.com found.

The top first date choice for the 20 to 30 age range was mini-golf, with 51 per cent opting for it.
