Insomniac Mariella turns to cannabis oil
BROADCASTER Mariella Frostrup has revealed that she has turned to cannabis oil in an effort to defeat her insomnia.
The journalist and presenter said she had found sleeping pills ‘very helpful’ but was put off because she did not want to become addicted.
Writing in the Observer magazine, Frostrup said she found cannabidiol (CBD) ‘quite helpful’ but has also tried a number of other sleep aids.
They include ‘having a bath with lavender oil (occasionally helpful)… white noise (better than just the sound of my thoughts rattling around); melatonin (in small doses and taken regularly it definitely helps – and it’s just available on the NHS, but only to 55s); Horlicks (just makes me thirsty); doing less work (works a treat, but hard to pay the bills)’. She says that she has also tried an app called Calm – which she describes as ‘pleasantly distracting’ – and says HRT can help with sleeplessness in menopause ‘although it didn’t really resolve the problem for me’.
