WEIRD SCIENCE Why smelly socks are not to be sniffed at

-

Next time you whip off a pair of dirty socks, whatever you do, don’t sniff them. In 2018, a Chinese man with a strange habit of whiffing his foul-smelling socks every day after taking them off contracted a severe lung infection. The 37-year-old was reportedly hospitalised with chest pain before tests revealed a nasty fungus had collected in his lungs. The doctors in China concluded that the fungal spores were directly linked to the nasty compounds inhaled during his sock-sniffing sessions.
