Dominant Edmund a giant in New York as he reaches final

-

TENNIS: Kyle Edmund raced into his first ATP Tour final in 16 months last night after recording a dominant 6-1, 6-4 win over sixth seed Miomir Kecmanovic at the New York Open.

The Briton, seeded eighth in New York, has battled injury problems and loss of form in the past year but showed he still has the ability to contend for titles.

‘This is great to be back in a final, playing the matches you want to be playing,’ Edmund (pictured), the British No 3, said.

‘I obviously want to go all the way, but I’m enjoying my tennis. I’ve kept improving and learning with each match.’

Edmund, a former Australian Open semi-finalist, captured his first ATP Tour crown in Antwerp in 2018 when he defeated Gael Monfils of France in the final.

The 25-year-old now plays Italian Andreas Seppi or Jason Jung of Chinese Taipei in the final as he attempts to win a second tour title. Currently ranked 62 in the world, Edmund is on course to return to the top 50 by reaching the final.
