FOLLOWING 20 weeks of intense training, Parachute Regiment recruits then face P Coy Test Week during which they have to run, march and carry dead weights over undulating terrain.
Eight events over four-anda-half days are designed to assess physical fitness, mental robustness and determination. Seven are scored and one is a straight pass or fail.
■ Ten-Mile March: Teams each carry 35lb backpacks over undulating terrain. The course has to be completed in under one hour and 50 minutes.
■ Trainasium: Aerial confidence test at 55ft to assess suitability for parachuting. Pass or fail.
■ Log Race: Two-mile race for teams of eight carrying a 140lb log.
■ Steeplechase: 1.8-mile cross-country course featuring ‘water obstacles’ has to be completed against the clock followed by an assault course.
■ Two miler: Candidates must finish in 18 minutes while carrying a backpack.
■ Endurance March: Teams have four-and-a-half hours to complete a tough 20-mile route.
■ Stretcher Race: Groups of 16 carry a 175lb stretcher for five miles with only four allowed to carry at any time.
■ Milling: Boxing-style event to demonstrate ‘controlled physical aggression’.
