Rishi rises to the occasion as Corbyn crumbles
RISHI SUNAK’s Budget performance last week was remarkable. The new Chancellor – in the job less than a month – was confident, assured and even had time to crack a genuinely funny joke at John McDonnell’s expense.
His impressive delivery couldn’t have been in greater contrast with the response. Replying to a Budget that has just been given is one of the toughest jobs in politics but, even so, Jeremy Corbyn managed to suck all of the energy out of the Commons with his woeful performance.
Labour MPs sitting behind him looked embarrassed, while viewers at home shared the same thought: ‘Is he still there?’
For the health of democracy, his replacement can’t come soon enough.
