TOO MUCH FOR ONE NEWSREADER

-

A BBC newsreader fought back tears during a bulletin which featured harrowing details about the final moments of a British woman who died after contracting coronavirus.

Diana Speed became choked with emotion during yesterday’s 7am news on Radio 4’s Today programme after hearing an interview with

Ken Finlayson, whose wife Kimberley, 52, died on holiday in Bali earlier this month.

Recalling his final moments with his wife, Mr Finlayson, from Shenley, Hertfordshire, said: ‘She said that she loved me and we exchanged that for a few minutes and looked into one another’s eyes.’

Mrs Finlayson suffered from diabetes and died following two emergency operations.

Her husband suggested she may have survived had she been treated by the NHS.

Listeners praised Ms Speed for being ‘so human’, while the BBC said there was support for staff dealing with the ‘harrowing’ stories of Covid-19.
