have found natural history programmes make people want to find out more about individual species.

Even programmes without an overt conservation message can prompt viewers to seek information on animals they may never have heard of before.

The researchers, from Cork, analysed sites such as Twitter and Wikipedia and found creatures did not have to be a socalled ‘charismatic species’ in order to attract attention. Just as well for some of the scalier reptiles.
