GROCERIES, CEILIDH MUSIC AND SIGNED FIRST EDITIONS...

-

To Tesco worker Marvie Begbie, 59, a mother of five from Banchory, Kincardineshire

Thank you for handing me one of your last bottles of hand sanitiser in the Banchory branch of Tesco at the beginning of last month.

After your act of kindness I, a gin distiller, diverted all my resources into making hand sanitiser to help people as you had helped me.

Last week we delivered 40 pallets of our products to every single NHS hospital in Scotland. Thank you.

To Asiyah and Jawad

Your Day Today Express shop is fantastic. You have nice workers and great food and you have helped many people through these difficult times. Thank you for giving me my free lunch last week, you have cheered me up since McDonald’s closed.

To the Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland advice line nurses

I want to thank you for all you are doing right now to make sure people are staying safe and well.

You are amazing and wonderful people, and it makes all the difference knowing you are there for us if we need help during these dark times.

To Christine McConnell, a volunteer with the Viral Kindness website

Thank you so much for doing the shopping for us.

You really have been a godsend; you’re marvellous.

I’m 79 and my husband is

81, and due to health issues we’ve not been able to go out.

However, you’ve been volunteering to help us by getting our messages from the shop. To think, I’d never have met you if this hadn’t happened. We are going to take you and your husband out for a lovely meal when this is all over.

To Alexander McCall Smith

Thank you for donating a collection of signed first edition books, pamphlets and manuscripts to an auction to raise money for the NHS Covid-19 response. This is a typically generous donation from one of Scotland’s most prolific and bestloved authors in aid of a great cause. The two original handwritten manuscripts, and a moving poem in honour of the NHS, are particularly special.

To the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor

Thank you for donating £13,000 to help establish a Scottish food bank near your Reay Forest Estate in Sutherland – along with £800-worth of venison. The Westminster Foundation grant will fund the food bank for the next six months. It’s amazing.

The donation has also enabled the church to deliver 150 box blessings with a mixture of food, treats and toiletries, specifically for elderly people in the community. People have been used to receiving tinned meats, so it will be wonderful for them to be able to have venison.

To sisters Alison and Fiona McNeill of the folk band Reely Jiggered

We would like to say thank you for playing ceilidh music for us all outside your home on Brodick Drive, in Gourock, Renfrewshire.

You are doing a wonderful thing. We are thoroughly enjoying your concerts and, every week, everyone is looking forward to our Saturday nights listening to you. We’ve known you both for years, but it is still just so special to have you out playing music for us during this time. Everyone on our street has been listening, it’s just fantastic. We have relatives in the USA and they have been listening in too via Facebook, so it’s not even just the locals – you are cheering everybody up.

We would just like to say thank you for the music, and especially for giving us something to look forward to at 5pm every Saturday.

Dear Garnock Valley Face Mask Team

Thank you so much for donating fabric, elastic and your time – between us we’ve made more than 200 face masks for our community.

When I first started this two weeks ago, I had only made 30. But with your help, we’ve been able to ramp up our output, giving face masks to vulnerable members in the local area. I have been truly overwhelmed at the support, and cannot wait to use the money earned in donations to put on a feast for our local carers when this is all over.

Thank you.
