Joy for Sheridan as she has baby boy

- By Katie Hind

SHERIDAN Smith told of her joy yesterday after giving birth to a boy.

The actress posted a photograph of her son’s tiny hand on Twitter and said she was ‘overwhelmed’ at welcoming the new arrival into the world.

The 38-year-old, who has yet to decide on a name for the baby with fiance Jamie Horn, told her fans: ‘Our little man has arrived! We are both completely overwhelmed with love.’

The first-time mother, below, was inundated with messages of congratulations from her celebrity friends. Myleene Klass said, ‘Huge congratulations, Mama x’ while Gary Lineker wrote, ‘Congratulations to you both.’

Miss Smith first made a name for herself in the sitcoms The Royle Family, Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps and Gavin & Stacey.

She has since received widespread acclaim for her dramatic roles, winning a Bafta, a National Television Award and two Oliviers.

Last week, she impressed viewers with an emotional performance in the first instalment of ITV’s new lockdown-themed series Isolation Stories.

It is a happy new chapter for the star – an accomplished singer with a string of West End credits to her name – who has previously opened up about her mental health problems and issues with alcohol.

In 2018, she revealed how she ‘just fell apart’ when her father was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

‘I didn’t want to leave him, I didn’t want to be away from him,’ she said at the time. ‘I didn’t know how to handle all those feelings... I just lost my mind for a time there.

‘I was running away from a lot, straight to the bottom of a bottle. I was trying to get out of my head.’ Miss Smith first hinted she was pregnant last October by telling fans she had a ‘baby on board’.
