Head over heels in love with Normal People

-

I agree with everything Deborah Ross said in

The Mail on Sunday last week about the TV series Normal People. It was a reminder of all the trials, tribulations, emotions, innocence and naivety of schoolgirl crushes, leading into first love, without being sordid. And the actors are fabulous –

Daisy Edgar-Jones is stunning and so believable. I can’t bear to read the book now because nothing can surpass the TV drama. It’s excellent in every way. Judith Macbeth, Reading

Deborah Ross thought Normal People was terrific and gorgeous. I’m afraid I watched two episodes and thought it was a tedious teenagers’ copulation-fest. Pathetic and sordid. Jack Harper, Widnes

Last week you reported that Normal People’s

Paul Mescal fibbed his way to fame, keeping quiet about the fact that he couldn’t drive when being cast.

But casting is dependent on lying: actors bidding for parts build up a list of accomplishments – going as far as fencing or skydiving – with varying degrees of truthfulness; and casting directors encourage white lies because they are fully aware that finding the next ‘face’ will transform their own bank accounts. Faith Hines, Long Melford, Suffolk

The best television I have seen during lockdown is ITV’s Isolation Stories. These four 15-minute films are a must-see: powerful, agonising and gut-wrenching, yet funny at the same time.

Writer Jeff Pope and the whole team deserve an award. Mark David, Hadleigh, Suffolk
