Retailers pumped as bike sales soar
BICYCLES are selling at an ‘unprecedented’ rate due to the coronavirus crisis.
Retailers say there has been a surge in sales to those fearful of using public transport or hoping to get fit during lockdown.
Market leader Halfords, which sells more than a million bikes a year, is now selling double its usual rate, with women’s bike sales outperforming men’s.
Jonathan Harrison, of the Association of Cycle Traders, said: ‘Stores are selling bikes that have been there on the shop floor for ten years.’
