A Very British Hotel Chain: Inside Best Western

Channel 4, 9pm You might fear that a documentary series going behind the scenes of the Best Western hotel chain would be bland corporate publicity, but don’t be misled. With drily understated narration by Diane Morgan (aka Philomena Cunk), this is an entertaining dose of reality that is blessed with frequent comedy moments and rich in David Brent-style management speak.

We meet some of the independent owners of the hotels, such as Jonathan and Jenny Fletcher (right), plus new CEO and former Aussie Rules footballer Rob Paterson, who operates in an office where a sign on the wall insists: ‘Smash it! Own it! Be courageous! Beat yesterday! Give a **** !’ Look out for hotelier and superstar chef Marco Pierre White, who is being intensely wooed by the chain as it invites him to join the business.
