Inside The Factory: Keeping Britain Going

-

BBC2, 8pm With the coronavirus crisis having caused a surge in the amount of shopping we all do, Gregg Wallace (right) presents a new five-part series catching up with factories he’s visited before to see how they’re coping with the vastly increased demand.

The opening episode is mostly devoted to toilet paper: a mill up in Manchester is now producing a million rolls a day. Plus, we see the vast forest – bigger than Wales – in Sweden where the trees are grown for the paper. A trip down memory lane makes one thankful to live now: would you believe that higher-quality toilet paper was once advertised as ‘splinter-free’?

Meanwhile, Cherry Healey discovers that the Bombay Sapphire gin distillery is still busy – and has branched out into making hand sanitiser to help the medics battling the pandemic.
