Steel City knife still a cut above
Further to your letters about inferior Chinese goods, when I had an allotment, I once dug out of the ground an old dinner knife. It was an extremely useful item for severing rhubarb. I recently gave the knife a good clean, and looked at it closely for the first time. It is Sheffield-made and the handle is not plastic, as I thought, but ivory.
To help remove the dirt, I used a new hobby knife. The 80-year-old Steel City knife now looks wonderful. The hobby knife, meanwhile, has already rusted. It was made in China.
