RANGERS CLOSING IN ON DEAL FOR IANIS

- FRASER MACKIE

RANGERS hope to welcome Ianis Hagi back to Glasgow within the next week as they close in on securing his £4million permanent transfer.

The 21-year-old’s move from Genk is all but done, which should enable Hagi to join his team-mates when Rangers expect to start pre-season training on June 15.

The playmaker would need to spent a fortnight in isolation on return to the UK before resuming his Ibrox career, so the club has been keen to seal the deal in plenty of time.

Hagi was a loan star for Steven Gerrard in the second half of the curtailed 2019/20 season since arriving from Belgium.

He scored three times in 12 appearances, netting a late winner against Hibernian and a stunning brace in a stirring 3-2 Europa League comeback victory over Braga at Ibrox.

The Romanian midfielder spoke last month of his desire to return to Scotland and admitted his legendary father Gheorghe viewed Rangers as the ideal landing spot for the next stage of his career.
