No bending the rules over yoga
THE Greek Orthodox Church is at war with the country’s media – over yoga.
After broadcasters suggested that the stretching and breathing exercises could help people keep fit and combat stress during lockdown, the church hit back, saying yoga had no place ‘in the life of Christians’ and wasn’t a ‘kind of physical exercise’ but rather an ‘essential chapter’ of Hinduism.
I’ve never taken a yoga class in my life so I can’t comment on the amount of religious subversion involved in doing a downward dog. My objection isn’t based on faith, however. I’ve just broken so many bones down the years that I don’t really bend.
An exercise regime based on flexibility is never going to work for me.
