Jamie’s right on this ‘fresh’ food from US

-

I agree with the open letter you ran last week from Jamie Oliver to the Prime Minister in which the chef urged him to get MPs to vote for the amendment to the Agriculture Bill to prevent low-quality food being imported to the UK.

I have just spent three months in Kentucky in the US. I swerved away from much of the local food but it is hard to avoid bread.

In Britain, a sliced loaf will not ‘feel fresh’ after three days; over there a loaf appears fresh after three weeks, because of the preservatives they add to it.

Bread is unlikely to be imported from America, but this does illustrate the unhealthy food manufacturing practices in that country.

Why does Jamie Oliver keep ramming his opinions down our throats? Of course we should be buying as much as we can from our British farmers, but they don’t produce enough, so we have to import.

He also tries to frighten us with horror stories about importing food from the US.

No food produced and eaten in the US has, to my knowledge, resulted in anyone keeling over due to the way it is processed.
