BASSEY CAN’T WAIT TO WORK WITH MANAGER
for me and I am very excited about working under Steven Gerrard and his coaching team to continue my progression.’
Bassey is Rangers’ second acquisition of the summer after the club agreed a permanent £3million deal with Genk for Ianis Hagi.
Meanwhile, Gerrard is awaiting UEFA guidance on a fixture schedule that could see his team commence next season’s Europa League qualifiers before playing out last term’s competition.
Rangers had just played the first leg of their last-16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen when coronavirus put football into cold storage and the governing body intends to play out the tournament.
A date in the first week of August has been mooted for the second leg in Germany but Rangers’ situation is complicated by the fact that, unlike most of 2019-20’s remaining participants, they are scheduled to enter the qualifiers for next season’s competition — a process that normally starts in July.
UEFA are set to discuss scheduling issues on June 17 and 18, pending an an announcement. The summit should also offer clarity on Scotland’s schedule for the
Euro 2020 play-offs.
Once UEFA shows its hand, the SPFL is expected to push ahead with its own plans for the resumption of the Premiership.
LIVINGSTON SLAP £2m TAG ON DYKES
RANGERS will have to splash out £2million if they want to make in-demand Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes their next summer signing.
The 24-year-old has lots of English Championship suitors and Livingston have made it clear it will take a seven-figure bid for them to do business.
Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Wigan, Blackburn and Barnsley are just a handful of the clubs who have made enquiries for Dykes, who scored 12 goals in 33 games last season.
