Do I mask-up outside, and what if I can’t stay 2m away from others?

-

Q SHOULD I be wearing a mask while socialising or exercising outdoors?

A WHEN outside, as long as you can keep two metres away from people who are outside your household or bubble at all times, you don’t need to wear a mask.

This is because the virus spreads less easily outdoors.

It can be difficult to socialise while wearing a mask, so instead of taking it on and off all the time when you want to speak, make sure you keep at a safe distance. And of course, wash your hands. Retailers are likely to discourage touching and handling of products that people aren’t planning to buy, and most changing rooms will remain closed.

The Government is also encouraging people to shop alone if they can, to minimise social contact.

Q WHAT should I do if I can’t stay two metres apart from someone?

But if you come within two metres of others, don’t panic.

A study published in medical journal The Lancet found that staying one metre apart also helped reduce the chances of infection.

It’s best to keep the amount of time you are within two metres of people to a minimum – and try to avoid face-to-face contact in
