Petrol ‘rip-off’ as oil price slumps
DRIVERS are being ripped off as savings from the global oil price crash are not passed on at the pumps, campaigners say.
Brent Crude oil is now around $40 (£32) a barrel – and has been as low as $20 – after being around $70 at the start of the year.
Fair Fuel UK said, overall, Scottish stations made 22.9p per litre profit on petrol in March, April and May, almost double the level of the previous three months.
Profits on diesel had risen 20.3p per litre, up 60 per cent over the same period.
A spokesman for the UK Petroleum Industry Association said: ‘Wholesale prices take a number of weeks to be reflected in the price paid at the pump.’
