REVEALED: Scotland’s a hotspot for L-plate losers
SCOTS are among the least likely to pass their driving test first time compared to learners from the rest of the UK, a study has found.
Just 41 per cent of those north of the Border achieve a pass at the first attempt – the secondworst record in the 12 parts of the UK that were surveyed.
Only learners in London were less likely to pass first time – with just 26 per cent succeeding at their first attempt.
But Scots make up for their slow start by going on to have some of the fewest accidents in their driving career.
A survey by MoneySuperMarket found that while Scots drivers admitted an average of 1.6 accidents since passing their test, Londoners confessed to having four. The worst offenders were those who took six or more times to pass their test. They were involved in an average 6.6 prangs in their lifetime.
Dave Merrick, car insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: ‘Many people have long argued whether the number of driving tests you take has any bearing on the safety of your driving. Our research indicates that it does.’
