Simple way to halt flow of migrants

Instead of housing migrants crossing the Channel by boat in hotels and hostels, couldn’t the Government hire a cruise ship, anchor it in the Channel, and take all migrants directly there? This would at least give officials the chance to examine them for Covid and other diseases, and keep them safe until such time as their applications could be processed. A. Wood, Yorkshire

The simple answer to the question of how to prevent migrants arriving from across the Channel is to stop giving them freebies. Free hotel rooms and healthcare, and payments of £40 a week, are incentives to them. It’s quite a difference to how our war veterans and needy pensioners are treated. R.
