‘But we should have won 1-0, our performanc­e deserved to. We showed how good a side we are in organisati­on and possession and creating chances against a good Hibs side.

‘To come here, dominate and be in control of the game, I think our performanc­e deserved the 1-0 result. The referee has made a call but for me it’s a mistake.’

Hibernian manager Ross was also grateful to an inspired save from Marciano early in the contest, pushing away a wicked drive from on-loan Wigan forward Callum Lang.

‘He has not had a lot of saves to make in the four games,’ noted Ross. ‘This is probably the first one we have had to rely on him but he has trained really well.

‘He has come back from the lockdown leaner and fitter and he has looked good and confident. Shot stopping is a strength for him so when he is called on, like he will be, he can do well.’
