win last September, while Katic was the former’s companion when there were similar struggles a fortnight earlier.

However, Rangers emerged victorious on both occasions. Indeed, since a torrid Sunday in September 2018 when Rangers lost 1-0 to a Dolly Menga goal at the Tony Macaroni Arena, Gerrard’s men have since conceded only a Stevie Lawless penalty in six straight wins over Livvy.

‘You try and learn very quickly,’ stressed Gerrard. ‘There’s no doubt that our first visit to Livingston was an eye-opener.

‘It is a different challenge on the astroturf. But after that 1-0 defeat, we have actually had some really positive results there.

‘That’s because we have gone with the right mentality and focus, stood up to the physical challenge, matched Livingston in terms of the battle.

‘Then, when the time has come, we have shown our quality. That’s what we’ll be looking to do again.

‘Livingston will try to take us out of our comfort zone. They’ll try to turn the game into their style. So we need to be ready for that and match it. If we do, our quality will come through at the right times.’

With Allan McGregor continuing to nurse a knee knock, Jon McLaughlin steps in for the third league match in a row.

Gerrard admits that with McGregor approaching his 39th birthday in January and potentially dealing with more injury issues, having McLaughlin to turn to could be crucial for Rangers.

Gerrard said: ‘It was the reason we wanted someone like Jon to come in and is capable of being a No1.

‘He has done ever so well, had a really strong pre-season and he’s a fantastic character and leader around the place.’
