Carefree young haven’t suffered like us

-

I am sure I am not the only one who felt anger after reading Dr Ellie Cannon’s article last week on the lockdown.

She says that young people have given up their freedom to protect the elderly. Really? I haven’t seen a lot of evidence to support this. While I agree that some young people seem to have suffered worse than others, many have not altered their lifestyle. Every day there are pictures on the news of the young on beaches, marching in demonstrations, in parks, in pubs, and queuing up outside shops or wandering around town centres. There is no social distancing and many are not even wearing masks.

She was rude about Joan Bakewell, saying she ‘barked’ that the young were flouting the rules. When I have been out walking, I have been shouted at by young joggers to get out of their way, as if they have a right of way.

Having done everything asked by the Government, I will be extremely annoyed if I have to lock down again. Doesn’t the wellbeing of over-65s matter, or is it only younger people who are worthy of consideration? B. Jordan, Loughborough
