No stars are leaving, says Parkhead boss
Taylor is the only one who can really fill that role at the minute. He needs support, so it’s the one area that we do need to strengthen.
‘There will be a lot of names thrown at us over the next couple of days. From my own experience, I know a lot of deals can be done in the last few hours of the window. ‘You will have to watch this space.’ Having endured a summer of speculation linking Edouard with a move, Lennon insists he is not overly concerned about the phone ringing tomorrow with a late, irresistible offer.
He continued: ‘It can be fraught but I’m really confident we will have all our players here.
‘Anyone who has been attracting attention, we are pretty confident now that there will be no business done going out. There are no bids in for players that I am aware of.’
Once beyond the deadline, Lennon hinted that the club may redouble its efforts to tie Ryan
Christie to a new contract, while there may also be a resumption in negotiations with Edouard.
‘I would imagine that may take wings again after the window closes,’ he agreed. ‘Once you get beyond the window, you can see where you are financially.
‘I think we are in a decent position to be able to offer the boys new contracts, so that’s something we will look at down the line.
‘Financially, I think we would have been okay even if we hadn’t qualified for the Europa League but getting there just reinforces that.
‘We are in a stronger position than if we hadn’t qualified.’
Meanwhile, Lennon has given Albian Ajeti, who pulled up with a hamstring injury in last weekend’s win over Hibs, a chance of making the Old Firm game on October 17.
‘Albi has a reasonable chance of making the squad for that,’ he added. ‘He won’t be away with Switzerland and he will be working round the clock with the physios over the next couple of weeks.’
