We need Piers to take on the woke brigade

-

May I applaud you for having the courage – for that is what it takes today – to publish Piers Morgan’s article last week.

In a media that is cowed and intimidated by a small but vociferous minority who have the support of executives within ITV and the BBC – but not the wider public they are meant to represent – it is refreshing to see an alternative viewpoint given air.

Whether or not one agrees with Mr Morgan, his was the only voice of dissent from the entirely predictable views of the TV media elite.

This is the first time in my 73 years I have written to a newspaper, but I felt I must state that I totally agree with the sentiments expressed by Piers.

I too did not believe the allegations made by Meghan Markle and I agree that I have the right to express that view.

Even if I had believed her story, I still think other people have the right to express their own opinions.

David McLeod, Jarrow, Tyne and Wear

I agree with the flower-seller in Kensington: Piers for Prime Minister!

Michael Wynne-Parker, Hingham, Norfolk

Piers Morgan really takes the biscuit: everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but it appears that is OK as long as it agrees with his, otherwise, as with Alex Beresford, just throw out all the toys and walk out!

Not very professional.

Keith Ranger, Overton, Hampshire

I’m right behind Piers Morgan. It is time to cancel the cancel culture before it kills our culture and our democracy. The woke brigade are harming us all by fanning the flames and causing trouble where it didn’t exist before, creating ‘victims’ who genuinely believe they have a grievance.

S. Martin, East Preston, West Sussex

A copy of Piers’s article should be shown or read to every child and adult under 30.

The woke society of today has become totally ridiculous.

Keith Harding, Bedfordshire

Free speech will be seriously eroded in this country if we are not careful and it will be too late to reverse the consequences.

Imogen Ridout, London

How great to have someone in the media to call out the woke brigade.

Many of us golden oldies are frightened of opening our mouths these days in case we use the wrong words or offend somebody.

Mo Bednal, Rugby

I disagree that the silent majority are with Piers on this, as he claims. He was in the wrong and went too far.

F. Thomas, Plymouth

Piers’s article sums up the increasingly disturbing trait of people asserting ‘I’m right and you’re wrong’ while offering no room for mediation. I agree with everything Piers has said.
