ROYAL VAULT

The Duke’s catafalque will be positioned on a marble plinth at the entrance to the Royal Vault. The plinth can be lowered to the vault below by means of an electric motor. Philip’s mother was buried here in 1969 before being transferred to Jerusalem in 1988. Also in the vault are George III, George IV and William III.
