Ashcroft rescues a point

-

DUNDEE and Morton had to settle for a share of the spoils after a hard-fought draw at Dens Park.

The game was largely a grim war of attrition and looked set to end in stalemate but the Greenock men broke the deadlock late on thanks to an Aidan Nesbitt goal.

However, the home side deservedly grabbed a dramatic last-gasp equaliser through defender Lee

Ashcroft with Dundee still sitting third top of the Championship table.

The Dark Blues utterly dominated the opening quarter of the match but failed to trouble Morton keeper Aidan McAdams.

The Greenock side gradually grew into the game but home goalkeeper Adam Legzdins was also a spectator.

Dundee then thought they had scored a winner but Declan McDaid’s goal was chalked off for an earlier foul.

That decision by referee Alan Newlands left home boss James McPake fuming with the race for the promotion play-off spots still tight.

‘I don’t want to keep having a pop at referees but I believe we’ve had a perfectly good goal chopped off again,’ said McPake.
