Cowardly attack on our saviours
IN the past week, a Scottish charity operating abroad has come under attack. In all, 26 members of the HALO Trust – who dig up landmines and make them safe – were either killed or injured in Afghanistan.
Made famous by Princess Diana, HALO is Scotland’s biggest NGO, with thousands of people working across dozens of countries to make the world a safer place.
I’ve been to Afghanistan to see the work they do there, and this cowardly attack by gunmen on humanitarian workers while they slept in their beds was a heinous one.
Let’s remember in the safety of the West how much is given by so many to help other countries move towards even a fraction of the security we take for granted.
