So what did happen to him?

■ CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is likely to have suffered a ‘fast, irregular and highly unorganised’ heart rhythm before going into cardiac arrest, a US cardiologist said last night.

Sadi Raza at Medical City, Dallas Tweeted: ‘Based on the TV coverage it is likely that Eriksen went into Ventricular Tachycardia/Fibrillation. This is a fast, irregular and highly unorganised electrical rhythm of the heart that precedes a cardiac arrest. ‘Fortunately his team and the ref quickly alerted the medical staff and ACLS [advanced cardiovascular life support] protocols were initiated. We saw CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and an AED [automated external defibrillator] being used, the latter of which was used to “shock” his heart back into a normal rhythm.’
