Queen’s launching her own beer!

- By Georgia Edkins

THE Queen is going into the beer brewing business.

Balmoral, her Scottish estate, has launched an organic pale ale – said to be a favourite tipple of her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh – which will soon be available in six-packs online and at the Balmoral gift shop.

A spokesman for the estate said: ‘We are proud to announce the launch of our very own Highland Organic Pale Ale – The Invergelder. Named after the farm at Balmoral, this refreshing ale is best served cold and is now available at our gift shop and restaurant.’

Prince Philip was a lover of real ale after getting a taste for it in the Navy, and often had a small bottle from his private cellar as a night cap.

In May, the Queen launched a gin using plants grown on Balmoral grounds.

The Ballochbuie costs £60 a bottle, and its ingredients, put together by the team at Balmoral Castle and Teasmith Spirits, a local gin-maker, include juniper, Douglas Fir pine needles and heather honey. Her mother’s fondness for gin previously prompted staff at her Caithness home, the Castle of Mey, to create the Mey Selections Gin, made at the nearby Dunnet Bay Distillers.
