Woolery has the wow factor for Motherwell

- By Fraser Mackie

GRAHAM ALEXANDER was a fan of Kaiyne Woolery for many years of the forward’s English lower-league travels.

On his first outing at Fir Park for his long-time admirer, Woolery (pictured) succeeded in rocketing in the Motherwell manager’s estimation.

And the substitute won 2,000 new devotees as returning fans savoured the comeback success that helped Motherwell to the Group F summit.

Sent on midway through the second half with the Premiership side trailing 2-1, Woolery had a hand in the equaliser then netted the winner as the visitors ran out of steam.

Ruari Paton’s double before the break gave Queens a 2-0 lead.

Tony Watt started the comeback with a looping header and then it was one-way traffic, with Woolery key to the direction of travel. He won the corner from which Ricki Lamie headed home the equaliser.

Then after Kevin van Veen’s effort was saved by Queens goalkeeper Josh Rae, Woolery followed up with a calm finish. It turned out to be the winner thanks to a stunning last-minute block from Liam Kelly to deny Lee Connelly. ‘Coming back from two down shows great character and personality,’ said Alexander.
