TWO new initiatives are being launched as racing looks to increase their audience and opinions are split.

The Sky Bet Sunday Series kicks off today at Musselburgh and the Racing League starts on Thursday.

Prize money and quality looks good for the former but some stables have voiced concerns about racing on Sunday. It’s only for three weeks, so it looks a worthwhile project. However, launching the Racing League bang in the middle of Goodwood’s festival seems like an own goal. While it’s something different, racing is an individual sport and the concept of team competition may take some adapting to for all involved.
