Will Biles attempt ‘too dangerous’ move?
NO female gymnast had previously performed the outrageous vault that Simone Biles pulled off in Indianapolis in May. Named after the great Russian gymnast, Natalia Yurchenko, the Yurchenko double pike required Biles to perform a round-off — basically, a cartwheel in which the feet land simultaneously — followed by a backwards handspring and two pikes in quick succession. Worried other gymnasts might copy such a dangerous move, the judges scored it just 6.6 out of 10 but Biles promised to ‘just go do it’ again while the rest of the sport tries to come to terms with it.
