KILLIE TOP GROUP AS SUPER SUB BURKE SINKS STRANRAER

- LINDSAY HERRON

EVERGREEN Chris Burke secured Kilmarnock’s place in the last 16 with a strike just three minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Tommy Wright’s side clinched top spot in Group G but not after a few scary moments. They missed several first-half chances but got the goal they deserved eight minutes before the break.

Fraser Murray worked a one-two with Liam Polworth before slotting a right-foot shot past Luke Scullion.

Josh Walker levelled for Stranraer on 53 minutes.

But Burke struck three minutes later when his shot deflected off Scott Robertson and flew into the net.

Killie assistant Paul Stephenson said: ‘We’ve dug in and shown our fight and that will be important in the season ahead.’
